After a lifetime on the East Coast and getting stuck in the Midwestern suburbs of Chicago and northern Michigan I'm finally on the West Coast in the always cool and never hot city of San Francisco. Japhet worked for various outdoor organizations before becoming a member of Howard Dean's webteam (a lowly online organizer) in Burlington, Vermont. Afterwards, he continued his election work with America Coming Together in Madison, Wisconsin where he helped increase voter turnout to the highest in state history. Now, coming back to this environmental and corporate ethics roots, Japhet is excited to put his skills to use for Rainforest Action Network.

Obama Releases Half an Energy Plan

Presidential contender Barack Obama (D-IL) unleashed his energy plan with strong words for the heads of America’s auto leaders in Detroit. Happy Arbor Day

National Arbor Day was on Friday. Did anyone know? No doubt millions of Americans were taking time off work to go and plant trees in their neighborhoods and communities. Ok, well maybe not. Clearly, Arbor Day has taken a hit on the national holiday regard-o-meter. I can’t remember ever really “celebrating” National Arbor Day. But [...]

Australia is suffering through an epic six-year drought and it just got a lot worse. Coal miners visit Madison, NJ

Probably one of the best all around actions during the Step It Up weekend, our activists in Madison, NJ strolled down Main Street to their local Chase bank to shed a little light on the banks financial support of coal-fired power plants. My favorite photograph is of the three miners sitting in the waiting room [...]

Sarasota Billionaires Unite!

This just in from our favorite billionaire, Jolly Ho of Sarasota… I am very glad to report that the billionaires had an absolutely spiffing time on Friday. Who knew that mingling with the poor could be so enjoyable? My companion and I donned our finest apparel and headed downtown to the office of our dear [...]

That must be some expensive sugar

Lamoko is a small village on the Maringa River deep in the heart of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The village sits beside a giant swath of virgin rainforest containing high-value species like African Teak and Sapele. Back in 2005 a couple of representatives from a major timber firm showed up to negotiate a [...]
