Thanks to the 14,430 (and counting) of you who signed the petition we created along with Orangutan Outreach, Dr. Oz has begun to tell his viewers the full story about palm oil—on his blog.

But he hasn’t done enough. According to news reports, Dr. Oz’s enthusiastic support for red palm oil inspired a buying frenzy. We have to keep up the pressure and push Dr. Oz to correct the enormity of his error by issuing a retraction on The Dr. Oz Show.

The Dr. Oz Show currently ranks as one of the highest-rated daytime programs in recent history, so getting any response from Dr. Oz is a big success. But it’s imperative that he fill his viewers in on the disastrous environmental impact of palm oil production, which is devastating the rainforests of Indonesia and driving endangered species like the orangutan to extinction.

Can you send a message to Dr. Oz telling him to issue a correction about palm oil ON THE AIR? Even if you’ve signed this petition already, you can sign again. We’ve tweaked the language to include our demand that Dr. Oz issue a retraction on his show, not just on his little-read blog.

This International Business Times headline says it all: “Red Palm Oil Touted By Dr. Oz As A Diet Miracle Could Lead To ‘War On Orangutans’.”

Please sign (or re-sign) the petition to Dr. Oz now.

To me, Dr. Oz is only interested in making as much money as possible. There is NO scientific evidence that palm oil will make you live longer. Dr. Oz is a quack who wants to persuade people that they need palm oil. When his customer-base is large enough, he’ll make pills with palm oil, which will allow him to make a lot of money. It will be at the expense of orang utans, tigers, etc. but he doesn’t care provided he makes money.

I read this and was upset, as many of you are, to learn of what Ashley Schaeffer is writing about. So I did some research and discovered this site http://www.rspo.org/ which thoroughly explains the situation and plantations adopting sustainable certification. This will take some time before all adopt these practices but surely this is no different than, lets say, buying chocolate. We have a choice-buy regular chocolate harvested by 8 yr old children forced to work 11 hrs a day, 7 days a week or buy free-trade organic….We make choices so if you buy palm oil find out a bit about it first. And try not to tar everything with the same brush. Drs Oz & Wlyde do far more good than anything else and, as they have no financial ties to the products they recommend which is almost everything healthy under the sun, it is highly unlikely that there is a grand conspiracy afoot.

Dr. Oz seems to be a moron. He also thinks GMO foods aren’t harmful. Someone should explain this to Oprah. She’s the responsible party who unleashed this money grubber on us.

  4. C oco says:

You are the ones not getting it Dr Oz is a physician and concerned with HUMAN health care. This is not a disregard for Orangutans but a committed information network to empower human beings with the responsibility of their own well being as dr’s on the whole are sheep! and the pharmaceutical companies along with these sheep are dis-informing us and dis-empowering us all at the same and forcing us into slavery to the likes of the “WHO” who don’t give a toss about the welfare of human beings! If we in ignorance impact the environment negatively I would urge you to pursue and persecute the real boogie man. Which as a collective are all the organizations that Ashley has worked for with such dedication!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shame on you Ashley! UNTIL THE ORDINARY PERSON IS EMPOWERED THIS PLANET AND ALL ITS GORGEOUS WILD LIFE IS UTTERLY DOOMED! So in my opinion. YOU GO DR.OZ! I’m personally rooting for you! Coco
