What is Citizens United all about anyway? How did it come to pass that corporations can now spend as much as they want on political advertising? Isn’t that f*d up?
If you want these questions answered, today is your day! The brilliant folks behind The Story of Stuff have just come out with one of their most important animated documentaries yet: The Story of Citizens United.
Hey, let’s face it, sometimes it takes a cartoon and Annie’s calm elementary school teacher cadence to put complex things like Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission into perspective. (And make it entertaining. Shhh, don’t tell anyone I said that.)
Startling facts from The Story of Citizens United:
- 85% of people feel that corporations have too much power
- 53 of the 100 biggest economies on Earth are corporations
- If the top 100 corporations used 1% of their profits toward political campaigns, they could outspend every candidate for President, House, and Senate combined
- In 2010, corporate-backed political groups spent $300 million, more than every midterm election since 1990 combined
After you watch the video, be sure to click the TAKE ACTION button at the end. It’s gonna make us all feel a lot better about the world if we’re not being stomped on by mindless corporate robots, n’est pas?

YAYY DEMOCRACY!!! If ONLY we weren’t in the USA and this WAS a democracy. Luckily we actually live in a constitutional republic. So glad you hate corporations. You have Facebook on your page. I found your site using Google. You probably watch the news or read newspapers. All of these are corporations. You probably also eat at restaurants. Go to bars? Drive a car? Buy gas? Buy electricity? yup. all corporations and apparently therefore EVIL. I say we cut out ALL speach from these evil entities. No more advertisements. No more lobbying. THEN we would live in a perfect world.
I think you missed the point completely Heather.
I think you both missed the point. It’s the CONTROL through MONEY that we are opposed to. Our elections should not be made by special interests and wouldn’t it be great to try a world that didn’t allow lobbyists to throw money at susceptable public servants. Just say NO still works for me.
