How strange: None of the 20+ political parties in Brazil oppose the Belo Monte Dam, including the brazilian Green Party - whose leading figure won 19% in the Oct. 2010 presidential election. Marina da Silva has only demanded the compliance with the social agenda and she again told Bill Clinton on March 25. 11, that Belo Monte will be constructed - but that the "programas compensatorias previstos no projeto" are delivered by the consitorium and the government. 90% of all objection against ALL national development projects in ALL nations of South America, repeat - 90% of the "protest" comes from NGOs financed "in" the USA, Britain, Netherland and Germany. How strange ? (A hint: "Follow the money...."!)

[...] After reading several AP articles in local papers in California, I became aware of the issues over the Belo Monte project. I have visited many of the countries in South America and to the Amazon in Ecuador and Peru (time in Brazil/Iguazu only), but not to the area of the proposed dam. [...]

Environmental damages are incalculable, a hydroelectric dam requires large areas and many billion dollars to be built. An aneutronic nuclear fusion reactor can produce huge quantities of electricity using small areas without any type of radioactive waste, at a price of few millions instead of billions.

To the people of IBAMA: Please, listen to your conscience: surely you are not so hardnosed and stubborn as to actually believe building the Belo Monte dam, or any other dam that would destroy so much wonderful habitat and the homes and lands of people - to say nothing of all the carbon that would be released into the atmosphere because of the destruction of the forest, is the best thing for your country? Be big enough in character to do the right thing. Disreguard the pressure from the corporations!!!

Such a dam as the one proposed is such an enormous interfearance with the natural world it almost certainly has to result in greater harm than good.
