We have just returned from holiday in beautiful Borneo, and I am watching a BBC Panorama programme on this rape of the rainforest and it's people. I was horrified to see the extent of the palm plantations in Borneo, and having stayed in Danum valley I have an idea of what Duta Palma is destroying. See this link for a list of UK producers and which products use palm oil - http://news.bbc.co.uk/panorama/hi/front_page/newsid_8517000/8517093.stm

It is the process of opening a plantation. It is very normal and RSPO should also understand the process to reduce unemployment rate. It is sacrifices to be made. Personally I think, the company spend alot of money on this project also in which they should have received permission from the regional government to clear the land and making it a plantation. Why blaming the company? or Why make it sounds big? i do think these people have no land certificate and just claim whatever they see. If it is illegal for the company, i do think showing the documents or papers of these people owns it rather than putting it online and make the company spend more for what RSPO complain.

[...] via the official blog of RAN When I arrived in July, Pak Jamalludin was outspoken, angry, and in the midst of a brutal struggle to hold on to the last of his community’s traditional forest. Almost all of the rainforest surrounding Semunying Jaya had been flattened and burned by Duta Palma. Targeted by the company, Pak Jamalludin was jailed for his efforts to present his community’s case to the company and government. But the remaining rainforest gave Pak Jamaluddin hope, and he tirelessly tried to save it. Motivated by his struggle, I wrote a case study about his community’s case and shot a short film.
