I don't understand how this even was approved if the communities were so strongly against it? That just shows how democracy doesn't work in our country... and I think it's a pretty big deal. This can risk the ecosystems of our northern rainforests, and so many creatures are endangered right now!!! Why are people so stupid to even consider taking this risk!!!! Why don't people care about anything?!?!

If oil were spilled in fresh water instead of fresh water being being used to extract oil it would be considered both a crime and natural disaster. So why is this intentional destruction of lifes most precious resource being execepted as 'just business'. Face it Tar Sands oil extraction IS a continuous oil spill.

I feel that Oil traffic in the Great Bear Rainforest region has the potential to be extremely dangerous. Because the different ecosystems depend on each other so much for survival, the downfall of one would certainly cause the other to collapse. “Bears live off of the salmon and other fish runs; rainforest wolves, which swim from island to island, eat fish and barnacles; and animals carry salmon carcasses into the forest, where they provide vital nutrients to plants.” An oil spill would not only destroy the marine ecosystem of the Great Bear Rainforest but it would devastate the other ecosystems interconnected with it. I do feel that areas that would be directly affected by a potential oil spill should get a say before any governmental group or big-time oil company. With the watershed all connected, (ocean to the rivers to the lakes and streams,) an oil spill would surely affect all the water within the region. The small streams seemly are the least important, but the salmon runs within these undocumented streams are so vital to the survival of the ecosystem. The risks are greater than the reward and it could cripple an economy and ecosystem in the aforementioned regions.
