Dear Rick,
I am sorry that you have only a little historical consciousness. If you had more understanding of our history, you would know that change comes much more from action than obliviousness. For example, civil rights for women, blacks and other minorities did not come about from on high but from grass roots organizing, lobbying and direct action. I guess in your model Rosa Parks might have been a "panhandler". I am also not sure what the "whole climate thing" means. If you think it is a scam why not read what scientists have to say about it? The very measured Stern Report might be a good start. Old hippies like me believe in science rather than conclusions from anecdote. Thanks to those activists who turned out for a better planet rather than watching TV or shopping!

Hi Rick- Divisive name calling is not anyway to solve any sort of problem, especially using names that have been thrown out there a million times before. At least give us something a little more original than "hippie" or "panhandler."

I'm becoming convinced that this whole climate thing is a scam and when I look at the pictures in this entry I just see people who enjoy protesting and holding signs, because it relieves them of life's normal responsibilities. Those "no coal" girls sitting on the road remind me of panhandlers. Is there a difference? don't think so.

It's not so much the apparent down turn in temps the last 10 years that convince me it's a scam. It's the protesters. The modern day hippies who figure that sitting on a road with your arms crossed is better than work.

Very well said. We're at point of inflection. Either we risk the major industrial transformation required to avoid catastrophic climate change or we watch and wait for the dinosaurs of industry to drive us faster off the cliff.
