Coal is bad, agreed, but fission-fires are worse! We know how to light them, but we don't know how to put them out! Want to see humans trying to put out a fission-fire? SEE: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5384001427276447319
Until we can put these fires out safely and effectively, we should not light them! The waste from fission fires is another problem, far worse than the waste from coal fires! We have no way to get rid of the fission-fire wastes - no safe way! At least coal fire wastes can be made into cement, or dumped safely in the sea, or buried damn near anywhere, without killing off everything around! Coal is safer than fission-fires, and can be refined to be even safer than it is. Can this be said of fission-fires? perhaps in time fission fires will be less primitive, and produce no waste, be more controllable, and extinguishable, but for now, we are more able to control coal fires and must avoid dangerous fission fires at all costs. Fare safer, but less popular, solar, wind, wave, hydro, tidal and geothermal power require that we adapt our "American Dream" lifestyle of unsustainablity to a sustainable lifestyle, something Americans are unwilling to do to date. Pressures from the end of the cheap oil era, the great repuglican depression, the falling dollar, bad trade balances world wide, and high under and unemployment may warp us back to a realistic lifestyle, marked by the death of the SUV, punctuated by the end of the "Hummer" and finalized by the Iraq pull-out, sans oil riches expected! Who knows! Coal is rapidly becoming America's last hope not for recovery, for survival!

Coal is as dangerous to lungs as tobacco. It cannot be breathed safely. We should never have to breathe our air through masks.
