Merl Saunders was such a beaming and passionate man. He was so excited to tell me about his trip deep into the rainforest – all the sights and sounds and smells and strange wonderful creatures. He knew what we were fighting to save. He wrote several songs inspired by the forest and named his band the rainforest band. Merl liked wearing the black Rainforest Action Network t-shirt with a spotted leopard on it when he was on stage. It went well with his signature black leather hat. Merl was a good friend to the forest and to many of us. Someday we will join him in the great forest on the other side of the veil. It will be a party.
