In reviewing your research list of offending companies, I noted included were a number of "cruelty-free, animal friendly", companies.Being a conscientious consumer, I now question the companies' standards. No doubt the destruction of habitats and species is anything but "cruelty-free"

Canola is not all that great for the environment either! In fact, some of the cookies - like Newmans' Own Organic replaced soy and canola with palm oil because there was this huge concern about trans fat. We just went from one unsustainable and unhealthy oil to another.

Thanks for this post and everything RAN does. I wonder if you could post -- here or in a separate entry --RAN's position on something I read in New Scientist, which is that *logging* for purposes of wood is the economic driving force behind the deforestation, with palm plantations just happening to be the kind of agriculture that moves onto the cleared land. Because, if that's true, then the logging will continue, with just some other kind of plantation taking the place of the trees, if the campaign against palm oil succeeds. Thanks for any clarification you can provide.
