Rainforest Agribusiness Campaign Kicks Off Delegation Speaking Tour

Two of our international delegates, Hiparidi Toptiro and Francisco Avalos, arrived today from Brazil and Paraguay. Tomorrow we kick off our speaking tour, “Rainforest Agribusiness, Frontline Communities and the Biofuels Boom” in our hometown of San Francisco. The tour will then travel to Washington, DC for Powershift07, Minneapolis, MN and end at the ADM shareholder meeting in Decatur, IL.  Lynette Hambuga and George Laume, oil palm activists from Papua New Guinea, will join the delegation in Washington, DC, and continue with the tour.

We’ll be hosting a brownbag lunch at the RAN office from 12:30 - 2pm.

Our first public speaking event and the premiere of our Rainforest Agribusiness Campaign Video will be held at the Mission Cultural Center at 7pm tomorrow night (Nov 1st).

Come hear directly from the people on the front lines, battling the expansion of industrial soy and palm oil plantations.

This seems to be a very worthy tour and I hope to be able to attend the S.F. event tonight, despite all the important events happening around here!

I found the listing for the S.F. event on the Global Exchange calendar, but not on either the indybay.org calendar or the Bay Area Progressive Calendar (bapd.org). What’s worse, there was no obvious way to find it from the RAN home page, even though I already knew about it! I had to do a Google search with the name of one of the speakers and “site:ran.org” to find it.

I hope this public scolding will prompt the good folks at RAN to do better in the future. It’s a shame to go to the trouble and expense of putting on a tour like this and not publicize it as widely as possible.
