Our friends at Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, a community based group fighting mountaintop removal, amongst other things, made this video about the devestating effects of coal mining on the land and people in Appalachia.
Please note that mountaintop removal not only fuels climate change, forever destroys Appalachian natural heritage, but also has taken jobs [...]

It was 107 in Memphis yesterday—an all-time high. The heat that has gripped most of the South for the past week and a half has killed at least 37 people.
Riffing the massive earthquake yesterday in Peru (which left almost 450 people dead), Memphis’ mayor said, “This is pretty akin to a seismic event in the [...]

In today’s NY Times, there is a great op-ed talking about the magnitude of the climate crisis. People are still talking about Al Qaeda as our biggest concern, but that by any objective measure – climate change is a far greater threat on just about every level.

Last weekend the big left-wing blogger’s convention, Yearly Kos, made news by attracting not just 1,500 netroots partisans, but all of the major Democratic presidential candidates. Long gone are the days when powerful politicians with tens of millions of dollars to spend on fancy TV ads could just ignore a bunch of tech-savvy guys posting [...]

“If you think those who have long challenged the mainstream scientific findings about global warming recognize that the game is over, think again…”
Great cover story in the current issue of Newsweek examining the decades-long battle to undermine the scientific consensus on global warming waged by Big Coal, Big Oil and industry-funded front groups such as [...]

After news yesterday that rescuers were close to reaching the six miners trapped, and possibly dead, in a Utah mine, reports reveal today that the effort to drill an air hole may have missed the miners altogether. The six have been trapped since Monday, with no indication that they survived the mine collapse.
What’s more, three [...]
