First Nations stick it to Telecoms
Being an internet guy, I was especially thrilled to see that Manitoba First Nations are seeking cellphone revenue from telecommunications companies broadcasting in their airspace. Chief Ovide Mercredi of the Grand Rapids First Nation explains:
When it comes to using airspace, it’s like using our water and simply because there’s no precedent doesn’t mean that it’s not the right thing to do.
While RAN continues to actively support the Grassy Narrows community against being logged into cultural genocide, I couldn’t not comment on this very innovative initiative from another Canadian First Nation.
I don’t know what telecommunications companies are like up in Canada, but down here they are kinda evil so I strongly support this community in standing up for their fair shake.
