Weyerhaeuser, Meet Grassy Narrows
I arrived in Seattle yesterday, excited to greet Gloria, Warren, Maria and their entourage from Grassy Narrows. They’re in town for a week of meetings and publicity intended to confront Weyerhaeuser about their supportt for clear cut logging of their ancestral homeland. Tonight, they’ll address a room full of supporters at the University Friends Meeting House.
Tomorrow, they had hoped to meet with CEO Steve Rogel. In a Friday afternoon email, however, an executive at the company indicated that “Mr. Rogel will be unavailable” but that they are “certainly willing to meet with and listen to Warren Ashopenace, Gloria Kejick, and Maria Swain as they requested.”
After some debate, the group decided take the offer. We’ll meet with Ernesta Ballard, Sr. Vice President for corporate affairs tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
