Glen, thannks for the comment. While I appreciate the sense of urgency you feel (as we feel it too) I really should say that this blog post in no way states that RAN supports ancient forest development. If anything, it was a review of research done by a well-accomplished tropical rainforest scientist. If you read the last paragraph of my post I state pretty clearly that Piperno does not vindicate current destruction of the rainforest. If you feel the article promotes forest destruction then you'll understand my explanation about "the danger" that this type of message can breed.

I certainly hope we can develop a sense of "hope for global ecological sustainability" as it's what helps drive the change we wish to see.

It is outrageous that Rainforest Action Network supports the industrial logging of ancient primary and old-growth forests. So many ancient forests have been lost or diminished already that there is no hope for global ecological sustainability. I urge you to reconsider your approach and come out with a strong statement of "No Ancient Forest Industrial Development Ever". If not now, when will this be necessary. You are so tough on coal and so weak on rainforest conservation. This is going to be a campaign issues against your organization. I urge you to head off an internician battle on the issue, it is really an ecological no-brainer.
