Confidential documents obtained ealrier today by RAN show how the Forest Products Association of Canada is working to spin an industry response to the”International Day of Action to Save the Boreal” events planned throughout Canada and the US on Nov. 3.

The documents, apparantly authored by FPAC Communications Director Isabelle Des Chênes (613. 563.1441 ext. 323, idesschenes@fpac.ca), expose an industry with its head in the sand. Despite hundreds of events planned thoughout North America by RAN, Greenpeace, and Forest Ethics, Canadian Loggers are choosing to ignore calls to protect one of the largest unspoiled forests left on earth. “Given that the campaigns appear to have little or no traction” writes the trade association, “FPAC will be pursuing a course of action designed to avoid making an issue where non appears to exist”.

Rather than working to innovate solutions, Canada’s forest industry is working to pull the wool over the eyes of North America’s wood and paper buyers. “as part of its ongoing liaison with key customers” assures the trade group, “FPAC has recently been in touch with the following to exchange information: Kimberly Clark, Xerox, Victoria’s Secret and the (U.S.) Direct Marketing Association”.

We tend to think that these companies–all purchasing paper from sensitive Canadian Boreal Forests–should hear from you too! Click here to send ‘em a message.
