State of Denial
An astonishing piece of investigative journalism has appeared in this month’s Mother Jones. Chris Mooney (a regular in pubs such as The American Scholar, Slate, The Washington Monthly, Salon to say nothing of his well-known blog) unleashes a scathing expose revealing Exxon-Mobil pay-offs to climate change skeptics. The intent was to create confusion and cloud the issue for Americans and create the false illusion that global warming is still scientifically in question. Two of these attack dogs (proudly sporting big-oil’s emblems on either shoulder) have criticized (relentlessly) JP Morgan’s recent steps to reduce investments in industries that emit greenhouse gases. Mooney uncovers their unique relationships with Exxon-Mobil and calls into the question the unethical links between big oil and public policy folks.
