Well, I will say this Fossil Fools Day turned out perfect. Our coalition of over 15 different organizations put on over 306 actions in North America alone, 155 of which were at Ford dealerships!

Canada set the record with over 30 actions north of the border, 15 of them at Ford dealerships. Thousands of students, parents, teachers, families and neighbors joined together in an effort to send a message to Ford that we are fed up with their endless foot-dragging when it comes to making any sort of effort to manufacture more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Santa Fe, New Mexico hosted Woody Harrelson and his bio-diesel bus, as well as Scott Pittman (Co-founder of the Permaculture Institute), Marilyn Winter-Tamkin (Chair of Earthcare International) and Benjamin Remmers (New Mexico Solar Energy Association). All four spoke to the need for our country to get off oil and onto something more sustainable, like solar, wind and hydrogen fuel cells.

Elsewhere….
Winnipeg students hosted an Emissions Olympics with breakdancing, bike-powered blenders, performances, and recycled art projects. California students camped out, created chalk art, and conducted a Fossil Fools award ceremony. Boston actors dressed as police officers and “ticketed? gas-guzzling SUVs. Energy engineers built a wind turbine at a homeless kids camp in Virginia.
Summits, conferences, festivals, and convergences were organized in Washington, Maine, DC, and Vermont. St. Paul students fitted a dorm room with energy efficient lightning.

From Morgantown, West Virginia to Honolulu, Hawaii and across Canada, the Jumpstart Ford campaign was able to extend its reach to people all over North America.
The Raging Grannies had a hybrid-electric car parade in Palo Alto led by a 1912 Ford and featuring radical cheerleaders, a California Clean Air “cough-in,? and parody sing-a-long.

Everyone did a great job putting on their events and we know that we’re all on Ford’s radar now. The key is to keep the ball rolling with the next event and to continue pushing Ford toward a more efficient future, both for the company and for our environment. Remember, send us your pics from your events, and we’d love to hear your stories as well! Stay close to the campaign and checkout www.jumpstartford.com for more info!
