Understory: the Official Blog of RAN

Let the Rant Begin

Hey folks and welcome to the Rant, RAN’s new blog designed for activists, by activists. For those of you who are veterans of our site you may have noticed some new improvements. For those of you who are new to RAN, welcome to the community!

Right off the bat we’re gonna ask for your help. As you can see the front page of our website has been re-designed and we need some feedback! Take a gander at it (RAN.org) and let us know what you think. We’ll be continuing (obviously) to work on it as the weeks go on here so keep getting back at us with bugs and suggs (thats bugs in the system and suggestions on how to improve it).

April is a huge month for RAN so stay tuned for actions, web updates and the latest on our campaigns….

No comments yet, the site must be perfect!

Actually, I have a laundry list of stuff that needs to still be fixed but more comments are always useful.

  2. Brant Says:

The header looks a little weird (not aligned properly) on news pages like this one

  3. Bill Shireman Says:

Congratulations on the new site! No bugs or suggs so far but I’ll let you know.

I wanted to offer an invitation to all RANters to join RAN and Randy Hayes and endorse SEED, a campaign to convince major companies to switch from petroleum to more sustainable bio-based materials and fuels, like bio-plastics (PLA), bio-diesel, and bio-ethanol, and to keep improving the environmental profile of these bio alternatives (such as through sustainable agriculture).

SEED is targeting 6 major companies for POSITIVE encouragement to make the switch. Your endorsement will help! Go to: http://future500.org/take_action.php

Your banking project page is jumbled, with overlapping text. Also, it would be good to have easy access to the specifics of the B of A and Citigroup agreements to help people ID what other banks can do to exceed them.

  5. Nick Evans Says:

The site functions well. Graphically It looks way more corporate than previous RAN sites which I’m not sure is a good thing. The type for the most part is way to small. Trying to read a whole article is painful, and I have perfect vision!

  6. Japhet Says:

    Nick…

Yeah I think we’ll need to look at adjusting the font size. As for the design, we’ d love to see your reccomendations of what might serve as examples to us that aren’t “corporate.” I think in the online world many people like to think that a website that isn’t slick in design is the first clue that it’s grassroots oriented. In our experience many of the sites we looked to for creative ideas were just the opposite: grassroots based, but sleek and sharp design-wise. What we are trying to avoid is a website that has too much going where our activists won’t feel crowded by too much stuff everywhere. Again, this is great folks and please feel free to dump some more comments on us. We’re listening….

  9. Japhet Says:

Interact? could you expand on that a bit? do you like the abilitiy to interact with RAN or did part of your sentence get cut off?

  10. Bugsy Says:

Same profanity and lack of taste as everywhere. I am used to it. It`s Ok.

Not much on my mind right now, but it’s not important. I’ve just been letting everything happen without me. I just don’t have anything to say right now.
